One Dead after Train Hits Car on Tracks in West Kingston

The vehicle was on the tracks off Waites Corner Road when it was struck by a train.

Police and Amtrak officials are investigating a deadly accident involving a vehicle parked on the tracks that was hit by a train in West Kingston late Saturday night.

South Kingstown police said the vehicle was on the tracks off Waites Corner Road when it was struck by the train just before 11:30 p.m.

The train, a Boston to Washington, D.C., southbound train, was carrying 207 people along with a crew.

Nobody on the train was hurt but the person in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Kingstown police, the state police and Amtrak police are investigating.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
