NARRAGANSETT, RI — Point Judith Pond is once again closed to shellfishing following Sunday's heavy rain. The Department of Environmental Management will test samples of the water to check bacteria levels and will determine if the water is safe.

The closure is a precautionary measure, the department said Monday, as more than 2.5 inches of rain fell on the area, likely raising bacteria above safe levels.

Results of the water samples, collected Monday, are expected late in the day on Wednesday. At that time, the department will determine if the water is safe.
