Police Log: February 11, 2011
The following reports describe the actions of the South Kingstown Police Department from Wednesday, Feb. 9 through the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 11.
19-Year-Old Man Arrested for DUI
Robert C. Colombi III, 19, of 252 Long Meadow Ave., Warwick, was arrested by South Kingstown Police on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 1:25 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, blood alcohol level unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test after police found him walking on Kingstown Road in sub-zero weather wearing only a t shirt.
Police noted a smell of alcohol on his person and decided to drive him to a safe location where a friend could retrieve him. Once inside the police cruiser, he told police he had left a friend’s house nearby after getting into an argument with his girlfriend, but when he heard a report of a vehicle stuck in a snow bank outside the Peace Dale Library, he informed the officer it was his car.
He allegedly admitted to police he was at Rhody Joe’s Saloon on Kingstown Road earlier that evening and left the bar to head back to the University of Rhode Island. According to reports, Colombi told police he hit the snow bank when he decided to turn his car around and instead go to a friend’s house in Narragansett. Police arrested Colombi because he allegedly admitted to driving his vehicle minutes before picking picked up by police.

During a search Colombi’s car, police found an empty 750 milliliter bottle of vodka. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 24.

A representative from L & R Northup, Inc. reported on Friday, Feb. 4 that a customer had written a fraudulent check in the amount of $25 on Jan. 1 to pay for services rendered to him. A letter sent by L & R Northup, Inc. to the offender went unclaimed and the suspect still has not made payment to the business. Police issued two letters, one to the registered address of the suspect and the other to his parent’s address notifying him that if the funds went unpaid after Feb. 28, he would be arrested for violating banking laws.
A Worden’s Pond Road woman reported on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6:06 p.m. that her boyfriend stole a bottle of her Percoset prescription pills before leaving their home with the intent to harm himself. Police issued a broadcast for his vehicle.
William E. Heeks, 61, of 566 Main St., Wakefield, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 11 at 12:02 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, blood alcohol level unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test after his car hit a snow bank on Lake Street. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 24.
