Police Log: February 8, 2011
The following reports describe the actions of the South Kingstown Police Department from Friday, Feb. 4 through the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb.8.
Multiple Thefts Reported in Biscuit City Neighborhood
Six people from in the Biscuit City neighborhood reported on Sunday, Feb. 6 that someone entered and stole from their unlocked cars sometime during the night. Police first responded to Higgins Drive for a larceny complaint at 7:55 a.m. Residents reported missing GPS units along with a missing Ipod player, CD cases, a 19-inch LCD television, sunglasses, a security coat, and two XM satellite receivers. The total missing items are estimated to cost $1,060.
While searching the neighborhood for evidence, South Kingstown Police officers recovered a damaged GPS and mounting unity on Higgins Road along with a pair of sunglasses and a stack of papers belonging to one of the vehicle owners. The blue security coat was found on Biscuit City Road. Police seized physical evidence from the scene and are investigating possible leads.
Other Incidents
On Friday, Feb. 4 at 6:18 p.m., a 22-year-old man from North Smithfield reported he was attacked the previous evening outside of Rhody Joe’s bar, located on Kingstown Road, while smoking a cigarette. He told police he did not want to press charges, but provided video evidence of the assault. Police are investigating the involved suspects at this time.

Kevin Peter Collin, 21, of 29 Tupelo Road, South Kingstown, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 4 at 10:20 p.m. on an active bench warrant out of Fourth Division District Court. He was released upon payment of $1,034.
Madison Nardone, 21, of 38 Wicklow Road in Westerly, was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2:10 a.m. and charged with simple assault. She will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 10.

Matthew A. McGowen, 23, of 781 Providence St. Apt. A, West Warwick, was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 11:49 a.m. and charged with two counts of violating a Family Court protective order after he was arrested by the Warwick Police Department on an active bench warrant out of the Fourth Division District Court. He was arraigned and released on personal recognizance the same day.
A Victory Street man reported on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1:10 p.m. that someone stole $525 worth of items from his unlocked truck sometime during the night.
On Sunday, Feb. 6 at :40 a.m., a High Street man reported someone broke into his red Ford Ranger sometime after 9 p.m. the previous evening and stole a snow shovel, a Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority breakaway safety vest, safety goggles and other miscellaneous items. He estimated the thieves stole about $50 worth of items.
On Monday, Feb. 7 at 9:55 a.m. a 17-year-old high school student was arrested and charged with vandalism stemming from a Jan. 14 incident where six CDs, which cost $125, were stolen from the gymnasium and destroyed. The 17-year-old admitted guilt to police and will make restitution for the cost of the CDs.
