SK Police Log: High-Speed Pursuit

South Kingstown police arrested Thomas R. Gray, 23, of 1865 Willington St., Dighton, MA, on Thursday, March 8 at 1:26 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and reckless driving in a high-speed pursuit, as well as several other traffic violations.

According to reports, officers first clocked Gray’s 1999 Volvo at 108 mph as it sped northbound past the government center exit on Route 1. Another patrolman said the car hit speeds of 124 mph by the time it passed South County Commons. Both patrol cars followed. Both patrol cars lost sight of Gray, but a third patrolman stopped him on Bridgetown Road. Police allege Gray smelled of alcohol when he spoke and had mildly bloodshot eyes. Although Gray admitted to drinking just one gin martini that night, he allegedly failed a field sobriety test. He will appear before the state Traffic Tribunal on March 19.

Breaking And Entering

A 15-year-old female was arrested on Friday, March 9 at 4:46 p.m. and charged with breaking and entering after she allegedly told police she broke into the building for the purpose of having sex. The matter was referred to the juveniles division.

Sexual Assault

Joshua Landry, 18, of 30 Hull St., South Kingstown was arrested on Friday, March 9 at 5:11 p.m. and charged with two felonies:  breaking and entering and third degree sexual assault after he broke into a Point Avenue home to have sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on April 18.

Comic Book Larceny

Keith J. Sousa, of 293 Rodman St., reported on Friday, March 9 at 12:57 p.m. that someone broke into his home and stole $30,000 to $40,000 in rare and collectible comic books. Sousa told police he stored the 600 stolen books, along with the rest of his collection inside his home near his front porch and last saw them in November. Police are investigating several leads.

Multiple Domestic Charges

Dale A. Voyles, 43, of 2801 South County Trail, South Kingstown, was arrested on Sunday, March 11 at 3:59 a.m. and charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic vandalism, and domestic simple assault, all misdemeanors. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on March 22.

Drunken-Driving Charges

Michael J. Atzert, 22, of 52 Ministerial Road, South Kingstown was arrested on Saturday, March 10 at 1:32 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, first offense, BAC greater than .15. Atzert’s 1995 Oldsmobile was reportedly off of Post Road next to a telephone pole with heavy front-end damage from a single-car rollover accident. He allegedly admitted to drinking a few beers at the Ocean Mist earlier that night. Back at the station, Atzert blew a blood alcohol level of .175 and .18. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court March 22.

Haley A. Cherry, 18, of 12 Atlantic Ave., Warwick, was arrested on Saturday, March 10 at 1:24 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test after her car allegedly collided with a guardrail on Bridgetown Road and popped two tires. She will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on March 19.

Suspended License Charge

Jean-Pierre Fonseca, 48, of 1324 Chalkstone Ave. Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested on Friday, March 9 at 12:11 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on March 22.

Multiple Domestic Charges

Adam M. Cafferty, 22, of 3516 Kingstown Road, West Kingston, was arrested on Thursday, March 8 at 8:26 a.m. and charged with domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct, and domestic felony assault after he allegedly pointed a handgun at his younger brother. He was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court later that day.

Larceny

Sandra Winslow, who owns Perennials Consignment on Charles Street, reported on Thursday, March 8 at 4:21 p.m. that someone stole an eye glass display case from the unlocked breezeway in her shop sometime during the night. The case is valued at $170. Police were unable to get any surveillance footage or other information to follow up.

Suspended License Charge

Joseph Beausoleil, 42, of 2 Regency Plaza Apt. 812, Providence, was arrested on Wednesday, March 7 at 3:15 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. Beausoleil had been driving a six-wheel yellow dump truck around the area of Liberty Lane trying to sell crushed stone to residents. An unhappy resident complained to police and when they arrived, they found Beausoleil had no valid license and that the truck was unregistered. Beausoleil said he was unsuccessful in his sales venture as well. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on March 15.
