RI State Police Seize 94 Pounds Of Marijuana During Traffic Stop

State Police found nearly 100 one-pound bags of marijuana, more than $6,000 in cash and a set of nunchuks.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — Rhode Island State Police seized nearly 100 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop over Memorial Day weekend. Two New York men were arrested on Interstate 95 North near Weaver Hill Road on Saturday morning.

State police troopers found 94 pounds of marijuana vacuum-packed into one-pound bags in the trunk of the vehicle along with a set of nunchucks and more than $6,000 in cash after police pulled over the vehicle for what they said was a seat belt violation around 11:15 a.m.

Junjie Li, 28, of Brooklyn and Zhong Ming Kuang, 49, of Staten Island were both charged with possession of more than five kilograms of marijuana with intent to deliver. Li was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon other than a firearm. Both were processed at the State Police barracks in Hope Valley and were held at the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston over the weekend until their formal arraignment in Third Division Court on Tuesday.
