SK's Own 'Idol'

South Kingstown has found its own 'idol' in 25-year-old Erika van Pelt.

The smiley bonde wedding singer and DJ made it through the first round of cuts in Pittsburgh with a rendition of "Will you still love me tomorrow," by Carole King that showed off her husky vocals.

"Pelt can belt," said celebrity judge Stephen Tyler in the episode that aired on Thursday after the judges handed down three 'yes's.'

Pelt, a life-long singer, said she first sang in front of an audiance when she was 5 in an "American Idol" interview.

She's no stranger to live performing and as a singer/songwriter she's even spent a little time laying tracks in the recording studio.

She's well-versed across musical genres, contributing regularly to jazz and swing bands as well as a singer of top 40 hits.

"I feel like I've got the personality, I feet like I've got the talent, I have the drive, I definitely have the ambition and I'm just ready to make it happen," said Pelt. "I'm ready for America to see what Rhode Island is made of."

According to her biography on her website, Pelt has been putting herself out there on the local music scene for a while, performing in wedding bands and also at clubs in Boston, Providence and Newport - to name a few.

Her new Facebook fan page already has 47 likes in just a day.

Holly Day, Travis Delgado and Reid Grimm also made it through to Hollywood in the first-ever Pittsburgh auditions.
