SK Woman Charged In Connection To Fatal Accident Monday

Leslie Morales, 29, of South Kingstown, allegedly was the driver who struck and killed Mary F. Kemp, 72.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI— Leslie Morales, 29, of South Kingstown, is being charged with driving under the influence and driving to endanger, death resulting, as well as leaving the scene of an accident in connection with Monday night's fatal accident, police said. The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Narragansett Avenue East. Mary F. Kemp, 75, of Wakefield, was struck by a car and died from her injuries. She was pronounced dead at South County Hospital.

Narragansett police were first to respond. Officers treated Kemp at the scene before the rescue took her to the hospital.

According to South Kingstown police, the car had fled but was later found 100 feet into woods nearby. Two people were partially trapped inside the vehicle.

Morales is being arraigned Tuesday in Washington County Court. The accident is still under investigation by the state Attorney General's office, South Kingstown's police Accident Reconstruction Unit, South Kingstown detectives and Narragansett police.

South Kingstown police said just before the accident they had received several reports of an erratic driver in the Narragansett Avenue East and Old Tower Hill Road area.
