Police and fire responded to the hospital for a hazardous materials situation, according to news sources.

WAKEFIELD, RI — South County Hospital is back to business as usual. The hospital diverted patients on Thursday due to a chemical spill inside the facility, news sources are reporting. The South County police confirmed the police and fire were at the scene. According to news sources, Hope Valley Hazmat also responded.
The hospital spokeswoman, Jamie Delvecchio, said there was a small spill in the basement laboratory. She did not know which chemical. Workers followed safety protocols, however. The spill was quickly contained, and no one was injured, she said.
