South Kingstown Opens Warming Centers For Residents Without Power

South Kingstown town officials have opened warming centers for residents still without power after Friday's intense winds.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Town officials have opened warming centers for residents still without power after Friday's intense winds. As of Saturday morning 3,600 South Kingstown customer remained without power, according to National Grid.

The warming centers are at the Peacedale Library and Kingston Library and are open until 5 p.m.

Wind gusts exceeded 60 mph knocking out power to more than 8,700 across Rhode Island. Several police departments and community groups reported downed trees blocking roads.

Several roads across the state remain closed. In South Kingstown, the following roads remain closed:

  • Middlebridge at Bridgetown Road
  • Curtis Corner Road from Kingstown Road to Asa Pond Road
  • Ministerial Road closed north of Curtis Corner Road
  • School Street from Holley Street to Oaks Street

Drivers are reminded to never drive under fallen trees or wires and to call the local police department or National Grid to report road hazards.
