South Kingstown Police Warn Of Scammer Posing As Providence Police

Police said a caller is claiming victims failed to answer a subpoena and must now pay a fine or go to jail.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — South Kingstown police warned residents about a new scam discovered recently in town.

Police said a caller is claiming to be from the Providence Police Department and is telling victims that failed to answer a subpoena and are now subject to jail time unless they pay a fine via Pay-Pal.

"Providence PD is not conducting business in this manner," police said in a statement. "Do not pay this person, should you receive a call from them."
