Collins, Boyd Lead In South Kingstown Democratic Primary
Abel Collins leads the South Kingstown Town Council field with 1,035 votes with mail-in votes yet to be counted.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The results are in for the South Kingstown Democratic Primary for Town Council, and according to the Rhode Island Board of Elections, Abel Collins leads the field with 1,035 votes. Melissa Boyd leads the School Committee race with 984 votes. Mail-in votes have yet to be counted.
Results reported Tuesday do not include mail-in votes, which are expected to be counted by Thursday. So if the results hold, the top five candidates will move on to the general election Nov. 3. Both incumbent Town Council candidates, Rory McEntee and Deborah Kelso, were among the top five. Those five candidates included:
- Jessica L. Rose
- Abel G. Collins
- Rory H. McEntee
- Deborah J. Kelso
- Deborah D. Bergner
James Lathrop was the only Republican to declare for the race. He will be joined by the Democratic primary winners and five independents: Alex Petrucci, Charles Sweet, Ciro Scotti, David Laudati and Dorald Beasley, in the general election.

For School Committee, six Democratic candidates competed for four spots on the general election ballot. As of Tuesday night, Boyd, incumbent Michelle Brousseau, Paula Whitford and Christie Fish were in the lead. School Committee Chair Stephanie Kanter had the least amount of votes with 700.
If the results hold, those four winners will face off against independent incumbent Jacy Northup and five other independents: Jason Colvin, Karen Humes, Paula Bradley, Robert Hicks and Valerie Speredelozzi, in November. No Republicans ran for School Committee.
