SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A state of emergency has been declared in South Kingstown, giving town leaders the ability to better adjust to the changing situation surrounding the new coronavirus in Rhode Island. Effective immediately, all upcoming town events have been canceled.
The declaration was made at an emergency Town Council meeting on Sunday. The declaration from the council "delegates the authority to the Town Manager to take any and all actions deemed necessary to address the ongoing emergency.” It will be in place until April 15. All non-essential public meetings have been suspended, as well.
Because the situation is changing daily, town officials might make more changes with little notice. The latest updates will be available on the town's website and official social media pages.
