State Police Arrest Providence Man Traveling With Gun and Infant

State police said the suspect had the loaded handgun in a diaper bag between his legs. He was on the way to New York when he was pulled over

RICHMOND, RI — Rhode Island State Police arrested a Providence man on gun and child abuse charges during a traffic stop on I-95 yesterday.

Karon Williams, 21, of Providence, was charged with possession of a loaded handgun inside of a vehicle and license or permit required to carry a pistol. He also was charged with child abuse (Brendan’s Law) because his 6-month old daughter was in the car at the time.

According to state police, Williams was a passenger in a car stopped by troopers for a traffic violation on I-95 in Richmond about 4 p.m. During the stop, troopers found a loaded handgun in a diaper bag between Williams’s legs.

The infant was later turned over to the custody of the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families. Williams was arraigned by a Justice of the peace and released on $10,000 personal recognizance.
