Updated: Tornado Warning Cancelled

The severe thunderstorm that hit Narragansett was capable of producing tornadoes.

Update: 6:33 p.m.

A tornado warning that went into effect earlier Tuesday night has been cancelled.

The National Weather Service issued the warning after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing of a tornado was located over Narragansett.

The storm, which was moving south at 15 mph, brought hail, more than 2.25 inches of rain in under 20 minutes and wind gusts upwards of 50 mph.

There were scattered reports of some wind-related damage and street flooding.

The weather service said it’s not clear if a twister did touch down. If it did, it was brief and touched down near the Towers.

The weather service indicated that Doppler radar indicated the storm could produce a tornado at around 6:14 p.m.

The storm showed signs of rotation.

Take cover now, NWS advises. Leave mobile homes and go to a strong building. Go to the basement or an interior room on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows.
