URI Student Hurt In Skateboarding Accident With SUV

The accident happened Thursday around 5:30 p.m. Campus police are investigating.

KINGSTON, RI—A University of Rhode Island student was flown to Rhode Island Hospital by medical helicopter on Thursday after he was seriously hurt in a skateboarding accident with an SUV, a school spokeswoman said. Henry Karshis, 18, of Foxboro, Mass., was injured around 5:30 p.m. on campus on West Alumni Avenue near Butterfield Road. His condition is not known.

Campus police are investigating the accident. As yet, no charges have been filed against the driver, Stephano Gikas, 19, of Montvale, N.J. Gikas is also a URI student.
