Van Pelt Makes 'American Idol' Top 13

South Kingstown native Erika Van Pelt will sing again on the "American Idol" stage after making the cut to the top 13 finalists.

Pelt, who grew up in Green Hill, earned a wild card  from judge Randy Jackson to take the slot after she was not selected by fans to be in the original top 10. He compared her husky rendition of "What About Love," to Adele's power and tone.

This is the second time in as many elimination rounds that Van Pelt has scraped past the cut. Last week, judge Jennifer Lopez told Van Pelt her performance of Adele's "Don't You Remember," didn't fit her voice well, but ultimately kept Van Pelt around.

"We have to decide who we're going to take a chance on and who we say maybe next time," said Lopez as the judges narrowed the competition to the top 24 singers last week. "We're going to take a chance on you Erika."

Jackson made sure Van Pelt would stay in the competition again last night - for another week at least.

Van Pelt won Jackson's wild card with her rendition of Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory."

Van Pelt was unable to comment due to contractual obligations with Fox. Watch Van Pelt sign live again next week on Fox. The male finalists will perform the music of Stevie Wonder, and the women will pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston.
