Wakefield's Faith Leighton: Teacher, Volunteer, Great-Grandmother Dies at 102

She taught at local schools in Narragansett and South Kingstown.

Faith D. Leighton, 102, of Las Vegas, NV formerly of Wakefield, RI passed away peacefully on August, 13, 2014.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of Clinton and Ethel Potter.She graduated from RICE (RIC) in 1933. Faith taught at various schools and districts including Rocky Hill School, Narragansett’s Fifth Avenue School (now Town Hall) and South Kingstown.

While she taught various grades, her main focus was Kindergarten at Stepping Stones in Peace Dale until her retirement in 1972. She was a volunteer with the South County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Washington County Retired Teachers, Adah Chapter 15 of the Order of Eastern Star, and St. Mary’s Women’s Club.

During her later years she enjoyed large print books and aquacize at the South County YMCA. In 2007 she moved to Las Vegas with her son Daniel and wife Marie. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl L. and daughter Linda L. Crandall. She is survived by her son, two grandsons David E. Crandall, Jr. of Charlestown, RI and Will J. Leighton of Nevada. She also enjoyed time with her great grandchildren, Juliet V. Leighton and Jackson D. Leighton of Nevada.
