CHARLESTOWN, RI — Bacteria levels in Watchaug Pond have returned to safe levels, the Rhode Island Department of Health said Thursday night. Both of the pond's beaches, at YMCA Camp Watchaug and Burlingame Picnic Area, have been declared safe for swimming.

The beaches were closed on Wednesday after tests showed unsafe levels of bacteria in the water.
