Firefighter Hospitalized After Matunuck Blaze

The fire broke out at an unoccupied house, South Kingstown fire officials said.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A firefighter was hospitalized after a blaze broke out in Matunuck over the weekend. Several other nearby fire department were called in to assist in fighting the fire, the South Kingstown Union Fire District said. The department said a firefighter was hospitalized for dehydration and released later that night.

The fire started in the unoccupied house Saturday night. Photos taken at the scene show extensive smoke and fire damage to both the outside and inside of the building, especially on the second floor.

All of the Union District's fire stations were called to the fire, as well as Kingston Fire and the Providence Canteen. South Kingstown police and emergency medical services also responded.
