Deepwater Wind recently won the rights to build wind turbines off Rhode Island's coast β what do you think?
A Rhode Island-based developer will soon begin construction ofΒ wind turbines at its facility at Quonset, after Deepwater Wind bid $3.8 million toΒ lease two areasΒ off the coast of Rhode Island.The company is expected to hire "hundreds of workers" who will construct 200 turbines to be placed in the 165,000 acreΒ lease areas, according to aΒ Providence Journal editorialΒ that termed the deal a "Victory for Deepwater, and R.I."
It will be about five years until the turbines are ready to produce electricity, the editorial noted, suggesting that secondary businesses to support the turbine construction should move to Rhode Island, further helping economic development.
