WORDS Can NEVER Hurt Me...

   Being a Mother of three, young-men, I have, what is referred to as, very, 'thick-skin', a thing, which, is capable of 'saving' one from insults, and, the 'slings and arrows' of life; as parenthood is a great, way to prepare one for these. Most of us, who are Moms and Dads, have come to realize, that, children are capable of being VERY 'honest', with this, ability to 'share' often bordering on 'meanness' and, 'hatefulness'. Heck...we were ALL children, once, so we ought understand, right? Young-folks, often, 'shoot from the hip, and, employ no 'filter' in their expression of feelings, etc..However, when we 'transcend' childhood, it would seem that we might have more of a 'sense' about how we communicate our feelings, with this including, preferably, the use of a 'filter', so, that, what we speak will not be offensive. Yet, it seems to me, that, a great, many, adults don't seem to 'think' before they express their feelings, with this, form of communicating, frequently, filled with barbs, jabs and offenses. It's a funny thing, though, that, these, same folks are, frequently, the FIRST to allow themselves to become hurt by callous, and/or rude behavior and insensitive remarks, by others. Personally, although, years ago I may have allowed the words of others to 'upset' me, I no longer do; for, I have come to realize, that, their 'words' are about them, and, not me, at all. Furthermore, it is, simply, the OPINION of another, and has nary a thing to do with me; and...we're ALL entitled to those, are we not? I wouldn't have the 'freedom' to express myself, in this manner, if this wasn't the reality. We may not, always, like or 'get' what others have to say, whether about us, or others; yet, if one chooses one's words WISELY, I will defend his or her 'right' to convey them, and, allow my 'thickened-skin' to protect me against any that are not so well-chosen. Just Sayin'...
