18th Century Furniture Enthusiasts' Tour of Newport

Join Newport furniture maker Jeffrey Greene and

fellow furniture enthusiasts on a tour of some of the city’s most

important collections and historic buildings. Anyone with an interest in

Newport’s legendary Goddard and Townsend cabinetmakers will enjoy viewing these

world-renowned collections and visiting the most prominent landmarks of 18th-century

Newport.  Mr. Greene specializes in handcrafting

furniture in manner of the Goddard and Townsend craftsmen and is recognized for

his insight on their work and individual methods. He is also the author of American Furniture of the 18th

Century
and the owner of the Ball

& Claw
, his showroom in Newport.





Included in the tour are:


Preservation Society of Newport County's Hunter House 


sites of Goddard and Townsend houses and workshops


Museum of Newport History
at Brick Market


the historic Colony House


lunch at the White Horse Tavern


historic Trinity Church


Newport Restoration Foundation's Whitehorne House





The day starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Hunter House and ends about 4:00 p.m. at the

Whitehorne House.


A price of $95 per person includes all admissions, tours, and lunch. Space is
