Amica Insurance Signs On To Run Newport Marathon Five More Years

Amica Insurance on Monday announced that the company will continue to be the title sponsor of the Newport Marathon for the next five years, according to a prepared statement.

Named the Amica Newport Marathon, the event's registration, start and finish in previous years has taken place in Middletown on Second Beach, with a course that winds throughout the Aquidneck Island communities.

The Amica Marathon serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. The event has gone on to garner some acclaim in the racing community, having been named as one of the top four marathons in the United States in the January 2010 edition of Runner’s World magazine, according to Eident Marketing officials.

Amica has served as a sponsor of the event for the last four years and became the title sponsor in 2009. The race was formerly known as the Breakers Marathon.

“Amica is thrilled to announce its new five-year partnership with Eident Sports Marketing, especially given the success of Amica Marathon these past four years,” said Julie Montalbano, sponsorship supervisor at Amica Insurance. “This partnership will help ensure continued success of the marathon, while supporting the marathon community by providing an outstanding assortment of events for race enthusiasts of all ages.”

The 2011 Amica Marathon will be held Oct. 15 and 16, according to race organizers. The weekend will feature the Amica Marathon, as well as a half-marathon and a 5K road race.

Nearly 5,000 people participated in the 2010 event, according to race organizers.
