NEWPORT, RI — The suicidal son of a woman found slain in a Newport motel is the "primary suspect" in her stabbing death, police said.
Officers found the body of 85-year-old Terry Costello in room 132 of the Harbor Base Inn on Connell Highway Monday morning when they went to inform her of her son leaping to his death from the Mount Hope Bridge in Bristol, the Newport police said in a media release.

Costello had suffered stab wounds to her upper, according to the release.
Police identified the son, 66-year-old Bernard Costello, as the "primary suspect" in his mother's homicide.

"We are confirming that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety as we do not believe there was anyone else involved," the release said. "Preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety."
