Locals can explore new fishing and cruising seminars, hands-on classes, VIP options, Community Day discounts for Newport County residents, and convenient parking and ferry access.
2. Newport to Host Public Information Session on Stormwater Management (newportthisweek.com) — Newport residents are invited to City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. to learn about a proposed shift from sewer-based funding to a dedicated stormwater fee tied to impervious surfaces. The workshop will explain the draft rate structure, show example impacts on different properties, and gather public feedback before any City Council decisions.
3. Army-Navy Rivalry Returns to Historic Cardines Field Sept 25 (thenewportbuzz.com) — Newport families can catch the 9th Annual Cardines Classic on Friday, Sept. 25, when U.S. Naval War College students revive the Army–Navy baseball rivalry at historic Cardines Field. With free admission, WWI-era uniforms, and a rain date of Oct. 9, it's a patriotic, kid-friendly night that blends local history, military tradition, and old-time baseball under the lights.
4. BankNewport grant supports emergency aid for Newport County households (pbn.com) — A new $5,000 BankNewport grant is boosting emergency financial assistance for struggling Newport County households, most of whom live right here in Newport. The St. Vincent de Paul Society's St. Joseph Conference is seeing rising requests for help with rent, utilities, fuel, and medical costs, with demand and average awards both climbing sharply in 2026.
5. America's Cup Legends Return to Newport for 12 Metre Championship Sept. 18–20 (thenewportbuzz.com) — This weekend, Newport's waterfront will be packed as historic 12 Metre yachts return for the North American Championship, racing across Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound. Locals can watch from Fort Adams, Castle Hill, Bannister's Wharf, or Newport Harbor Island Resort, and even see the boats up close while they're berthed at Bannister's Wharf through Sunday.
