Another Week Starts with Snow Day for Kids, Cancellations
Aquidneck Island could get 6 to 10 inches of snow by Monday night.

Groundhog Day was last week but it sure feels like we’re reliving it as Monday is shaping up to bring another round of snow and yet another round of closings, cancellations and delays.
It will be the third Monday snowstorm in as many weeks, and the third week to begin with another day off for Newport schoolchildren.
The National Weather Service is predicting 6 to 14 inches of snow will fall across most of Rhode Island, less along the coast and islands, more inland, with the heaviest snow overnight and Monday morning. A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Road conditions will be treacherous throughout the day Monday, thanks in part to the heavy snow landing on extremely cold road surfaces. Travel “will be slow at best on well treated surfaces,” according to the National Weather Service, and difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces.

Governor Gina Raimondo on Sunday issued an Adverse Weather Policy for state employees, which means that nonessential state workers who can’t make it to work can take a day off as long as they notify a supervisor.
“I’m urging Rhode Islanders again to take caution during the Monday commute,” Raimondo said. “Forecasters are predicting the most snowfall right before the morning commute, so the roads will be messy - everyone should plan for extra time and drive slowly. Please remember to check on your loved ones and neighbors, and to watch closely for updates on school closures and parking bans. I also want to encourage all businesses to be flexible with their employees - safety continues to be our number one priority.”
This storm may cause isolated power outages. Remember: Do NOT call 911 to report a power outage. Contact National Grid at 1-800-465-1212.
RIPTA is currently planning to operate under a regular schedule on Monday, but riders are advised to check for detours and delays.
