Aquidneck Island Plumbing, Cappy's Advance to Men's Softball Champs
The first of three games will be held on Monday.

The Big Dawgs took on Aquidneck Island Plumbing at Toppa Field Thursday in an attempt by both teams to advance to the championship of the Newport Men's Softball League.
The Big Dawgs started off with a few hard hit balls through the first few innings, but were unable to push more than one run across. AIP countered with a few fierce rips to the outfield, resulting in two earned runs through the first three innings of work. Both teams rewarded their pitcher with stellar defense.
AIP kept the pressure on all game long while they played remarkable defense behind starter Brian Vieira. Big Dawgs struggled to get a run home through the first three innings as the defense proved to be phenomenal. Following two early errors in the fifth inning, AIP loaded the bases with no outs in a 3-3 tie.

Fortunately, Big Dawgs were able to get out of the jam with two shallow pop-outs and a ground ball to end the threat. But they would put themselves in another tight spot in the game's last inning. In the bottom of the 7th, AIP led off with a single, which would prove to be the winning run, knocked in by AIP catcher Bob Richardson. The team walked off in style to the championship series.
Following that game on Thursday, Cappy's took the field against Rhino Bar for their own bid for the champs. Cappy's came out on top in that game, meaning they'll go head-to-head with Aquidneck Island Plumbing on Monday. The game, the first of three, will be held at Toppa Field at 6:30 p.m.
