Ballard Park Throws Halloween Dance Party and Costume Contest

People's Credit Union is sponsoring the children's event.

NEWPORT, RI -- The best dressed goblins, ghouls and witches will face off Saturday afternoon at Ballard Park.

That's when the People's Credit Union throws the Children's Halloween Dance Party and Costume Contest.

The fun starts at 1 p.m., with spooky music from DJ Butch. The dance party keeps going until 3 p.m., but at 2-ish, the youngsters step off for the parade and costume contest. Prizes go to the cutest, scariest and most original Halloween fashion statements.

Besides all that, Officer Joshua Wildes, Newport's community police officer, will bring his cruiser, so the youngsters can take a close-up look.

And after the costume contest, it's time for the “Monster Mash Dance Off”.

The event is free, thanks to numerous sponsors.

Everyone's reminded to wear their "sturdy shoes" because the event's in the quarry meadow. Expect some rugged terrain.

Parking is available along Hazard Road, and that's the closest entrance for the Halloween Party
