2013 Newport Public Education Foundation Scholarship Recipient Announced
The Newport Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce that this year's NPEF 2013 Scholarship Recipient is Dylan S. Burke, from Newport, RI.

The Newport Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s NPEF 2013 Scholarship Recipient is Dylan S. Burke, from Newport, RI. This award is presented to a graduating senior from Rogers High School annually, and will be presented to Dylan at the annual awards night at Rogers High School on June 11, 2013. Dylan Burke is the third recipient of the NPEF Scholarship, joining 2012 Scholarship Recipient Paris McGee and 2011 Scholarship Recipient Andrew Onifiro.
Faculty and peers alike describe Dylan Burke as being one of the most respectful and responsible individuals that they have had the privilege to work with. Academically, Dylan has taken the most rigorous course of study RHS has to offer with AP and Honors classes achieving a weighted GPA of 4.41 over six semesters. He has consistently been on the honor roll and is an active member of the National Honor Society.
In his junior year, Dylan was awarded the University of Rhode Island Alumni Association Book Award and Society of Woman Engineers New England Shoreline Book Award for excellence in science and math.

Dylan is known for his nine year commitment and volunteer work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). He was chosen as 1 of 150 delegates selected out of more than 1200 applicants to represent Rhode Island at the 2011 JDRF Children’s Congress in Washington, DC. Dylan advocated for diabetes research for children to congress. He has volunteered at multiple JDFR events including Leader in Training at Camp Surefire, a camp designed to meet the needs of children with Type 1 diabetes. Dylan has volunteered his time for the last three years and the camp director of Camp Surefire complimented Dylan’s parents for “his unique ability to not only empathize with younger campers but also show kids that diabetes does not have to interfere with what they want to do.” He has also served with the Bag of Hope program delivering diabetic supplies and information to newly diagnosed children with Type 1 diabetes.
Dylan has consistently demonstrates responsibility and meets all of his deadlines. He has the ability to apply and extend what he has learned, and has strong organizational skills.

Dylan Burke is a talented scholar/athlete playing Varsity Football for four years. He was selected by the Rhode Island football coaches for All League Second Team as a junior and is using his strong leadership skills serving as Captain this year. He is a competitive athlete who has played varsity baseball for three years will play Varsity Golf as a senior.
Dylan is a reliable and hard worker as demonstrated by his consistent work history with St George’s School’s grounds department for four years. Dylan Burke is an exceptional young man with great potential.
