4th Annual "Irish Eyes are Smiling" Benefit for Museum of Newport Irish History

May 11 Benefit for Irish Museum at Ochre Court to feature Singer/Songwriter Robbie O'Connell

 

 

The 4th Annual “Irish Eyes are Smiling” benefit for the Museum of Newport Irish History Interpretive Center will be held Saturday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.at Ochre Court, Salve Regina University, 100 Ochre Point Avenue. This year’s festive evening of Irish musical entertainment will feature singer/songwriter Robbie O’Connell. Tickets are $65 per person and are inclusive of hors d’oeuvres, food stations, open bar, desserts and a silent auction.

A native of County Tipperary, Robbie O’Connell began touring with his uncles, the Clancy Brothers, in 1977 and recorded three albums with them. He has released numerous solo albums of traditional and original compositions and is among the best known guitarists, singers and songwriters of the Celtic folk music tradition. 

Also performing will be Celtic harpist Mary King, and four traditional Irish musicians: Jack Wright, Tim May and A.O. Gutierrez, who lead the weekly Irish music session at the Fastnet Pub in Newport, joined by Rich Danforth, a Massachusetts-based uilleann pipes player. Guests will be welcomed to Ochre Court by bagpiper, Amy Burnes, a member of the Newport Ancient Order of Hibernians Pipe & Drum Band.

The Museum’s Interpretive Center is located at 648 Lower Thames Street, just south of Narragansett Avenue. It opened to the public in June 2011. The 2013 Season hours are 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, Saturday, May 25 through Sunday, October 27, 2013. Private and group tours are available at other times upon request.
