Family Optimistic Missing Brown Student Will Return

This is an updated statement from the Tripathi family regarding progress in the efforts for our brother Sunil, the 22 year old missing Brown University student.

Providence – As police and FBI agents probe surveillance videos, the family and friends of missing Brown University student Sunil Tripathi remain positive about his return. Their unwavering confidence is due in no small part to local and national media, which have raised awareness about the sudden disappearance of the 22-year-old. To continue their efforts, loved ones released a short video (http://youtu.be/t12tfTJ10bU) talking directly to Sunil.

“Sunil, the only thing missing is you,” his family and friends say.

Sunil has captivated the general public, which has followed his story over the last two-and-a-half weeks. The Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi Facebook page has continued to grow, generating 1.6 million unique views. The page has mobilized scores of businesses, authorities, as well as tens of thousands of concerned citizens, to lend time and resources to the expanding search.

Law enforcement agencies continue to receive tips, while diligently investigating each one. Sunil, who is six feet tall and weighs 130 pounds, was last seen on March 16 wearing a black hat with a Philadelphia Eagles logo, thin black-rimmed glasses, a black EMS ski jacket, and light-wash blue jeans. Anyone with information on Sunil’s whereabouts should contact Detective Mark Sacco of the Providence Police at 401-641-8691.

Families, residents, and local businesses of the Providence community have joined the authorities and Brown University, but equally impressive has been the contributions of those from afar.

“We are grateful to so many people and groups, not only in Providence, but also in far-reaching locales, including service organizations dedicated to the safe return of missing persons,” said Akhil Tripathi, Sunil’s father. “Groups like LostNMissing have provided invaluable support. The strong commitment of countless individuals and agencies has been incredibly heartwarming.”

Family and friends are expressing their ongoing support more and more in direct personal appeals.

“Not knowing Sunil’s whereabouts, we feel strongly about communicating with him directly,” said Judy Tripathi, Sunil’s mother. “Each of us wants to express to Sunil our unconditional love and support, and how much we long for him to be back with us.” In the video just released, Sunil’s sister Sangeeta is eager to tell him about her recent trip to East Africa. “I brought a soccer jersey home for you, as I always do. I am so looking forward to seeing you wearing it.”

Each day brings hope to the family members, all of whom look forward to Sunil’s imminent return. Akhil, Judy, Sangeeta, Ravi, extended family, and friends remain in Providence, working day and night toward Sunil’s safe return. “Our time here has made us think a lot about the importance of family and community. In many ways, Sunil has brought us together and given us a chance to bond. We look forward to sharing many of our stories with him soon,” said Ravi.
