Festa Italiana Continues through Monday
Newport Festa Italiana features Festival at Touro Park, Concert, Parade.
Newport Festa Italiana events continue through Monday. The Festival-in-the-Park (Touro Park, that is) begins at 11 AM Saturday, October 6. Features include delicious foods from area vendors, kids' activities including Elmo and face painting, music by the always-popular Vini Ames, chances to win some great items, and lots of fun people. Come early ... stop at Forum Lodge's tent for coffee to go with your doughboys in the next tent! Stay all day until 4 PM. Free admission.
Ochre Court at Salve Regina is the site of this year's Italian Concert, Sunday, October 7. Tickets are still available (only $25) to hear Carmen Jon Boscia, "the man with the golden voice," and his three-piece group, perform Italian arias and other popular music. Reception and silent auction begin at 6:30 PM, followed by the concert at 7:30. All profits go to the John O. Pastore Cultural Scholarship, which funds local high school students who accompany the local delegation to Imperia, Newport's Sister City, on alternate years.Â
Following an 11 AM Mass at St. Joseph's Church, the Columbus Day Parade starts off at high noon Monday, October 8, from St. Joseph's Church and proceeds to the Columbus monument on Memorial Boulevard at Bellevue Avenue. The parade will be led by marshals Dr. Anthony Caputi and Nona Caputi. It will feature many local and civic groups including the Navy Band, Middletown and Portsmouth high school bands, as well as numerous other folks. Of course we'll all be hungry afterwards, so join us at Sardella's for their delicious Italian Buffet Luncheon.Â
