Friday Night Means Football!
Rogers and Portsmouth to Renew Their Football Rivalry This Friday Night

Now that we are through Labor Day and most of the traditional summer activities are winding down for the season we look for things to take the place of beach time, cookouts, etc. We are very fortunate to live in a place were autumn activities are so abundant and accessible. In a few short weeks it will be leaf peeping season, apples will be ripe for picking, Escobars Corn maze will be in full swing, and it will be time to go visit your favorite pumpkin patch and pick out that perfect pumpkin to carve. Downtown Newport will be its usual vibrant self hosting the annual boat show, October fest, etc. One very affordable rite of fall I urge you to take in at least once this year is a local high school football game under the lights, on Friday night. While the high school footballers in New England do not garner the attention of their counterparts down south or in the mid west the Friday night experience is not diminished in any way. This Friday September 7 is a perfect opportunity to catch two local teams on the same field. Rogers and Portsmouth High, Two of RI’s most storied programs will take the PHS field at 7pm sharp. It is three hours of entertainment that an entire family can take in for well under $20-sounds pretty darn good to me. So if your plans do not include dinner at The Brick this Friday night head on out and catch the game. For a complete state wide schedule head on over to the RI interscholastic web site and take a look. The student athletes, cheerleaders, and band work their tails off all while carrying satisfactory classroom grades in order to participate. I guarantee you like what you see.
Just a quick side note about the band out in Portsmouth- They are over 150 strong, and put on a half time show that will blow your mind.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a resident/graduate of Portsmouth and an assistant coach on the football team…Go Portsmouth.
