Rogers Theater Company Presents Guys and Dolls
RTC presents Guys and Dolls! --This Friday and Saturday Only -- Held in the Rogers Auditorium May 17th at 7pm and May 18th at 2pm & 7pm Tickets are $5 at the door Fun for the Whole Family!
This weekend, the Roger’s Theater Company presents a production of the classic musical Guys and Dolls. If you’ve never seen it, gamblers, chorus girls, schmucks and a group of prayer-loving missionaries all collide against the backdrop of post WWII New York and the antics that ensue make for a delightfully raucous show. Sure, Guys and Dolls has been around for a while (it premiered in 1950), and endless productions have gone up around the world. And yet—it still feel deeply relevant and immensely fun. There’s Nathan (played by Devon Mello), the boyfriend that’s been dragging his cold feet for 14 years, much to the dismay of his disgruntled girlfriend Adelaide (Haley Murphy). Then, we find the pious mission girl (Ally O’Hara) with aspirations to “convert all of Broadway by herself” knocked off her feet by a high stakes gambler. She just can’t seem to get rid of Sky the slick talking charmster (Patrick Dugan)…who deep down might be a better man than he seems. The problems these two couples face: money, pride, commitment-phobia, little white lies to the in-laws, and broken promises are those we still encounter everyday (only they get to hash them out with a much better soundtrack).
The stellar cast gives a captivating performance, singing, shaking and twirling through all the classic numbers (Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat, Bushel and a Peck, and Luck Be a Lady Tonight among others). This is the first year the company has had the pleasure of working with so many trained dancers; we’re sure they’ll high kick their way into your hearts! RTC’s funny, vibrant production isn’t one you’ll soon forget. Shows will be held in the Roger’s Auditorium (15 Wickham Rd, Newport) this Friday, May 17th at 7pm and Saturday, May 18th at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.
