Catherine St. In Newport Briefly Closing For Street Repairs
Catherine Street will be closed to traffic from May 21 to the morning of May 24 for a concrete restoration project.

NEWPORT, RI — Head's up if you're driving into downtown Newport this week: starting Tuesday, Catherine Street will be closed to traffic for road work. The street will be closed at the Bellevue Avenue intersection until Friday morning, when construction is expected to be finished. Local traffic will be allowed down the closed section of the street by on-site police officers.
The City of Newport said Monday that the closure is needed to allow National Grid to complete a concrete restoration project. The work will be completed by Hartford Paving, a National Grid Gas sub-contractor. The street is scheduled to reopen to traffic by 7 a.m. on Friday.
Anyone who lives on the street or needs to drive to a business in the closed section can request access from an on-site police officer.
