NEWPORT, RI — A cleanup event is being held at one of Newport's oldest and largest cemeteries. The Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission is looking for volunteers to help with a cleanup event at The Common Burying Ground to clean military stones ahead of Memorial Day.

The cleanup will start at 10 a.m. at the cemetery, which is located on Farewell Street. All cleaning equipment will provided.

"The City will be providing all the needed equipment and know-how; all that's needed is a good group of volunteers with energy and enthusiasm," the city wrote in a post on Facebook.
