Coast Guard Medevacs Cargo Ship Crew Member near Newport
The U.S. Coast Guard said the man suffered a burn while serving on the 654-foot cargo ship Cougar Ace.

The United States Coast Guard conducted a medevac for a 48-year-old crew member on the M/V Cougar Ace near Newport on Thursday.
Coast Guard Station Castle Hill responded to the 654-foot cargo ship after the crew member suffered an electrical burn to his right hand, according to a Coast Guard release.
A Station Castle Hill 45-foot response boat crew launched and brought the injured crewman aboard. He was then transported to EMS personnel and taken by ambulance to Newport Hospital.

His condition is unknown, the Coast Guard said.
The Cougar Ace, an automobile transport vessel, was leaving the Port of Davisville and was about nine miles south of Newport when the incident occurred.

The Cougar Ace’s is widely known as the ship that listed severely near Alaska in 2006, causing severe damage to a load of 5,000 cars, mostly Mazdas.
The cars were eventually scrapped and the Cougar Ace was tugged from the scene and repaired.
