Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Washington, Newport Counties

Coastal flooding is likely during high tide after midnight tonight.

A coastal flood advisory has been issued and is in effect from midnight to 2 a.m. for Newport and Washington Counties.

High tide along most Rhode Island shores is at around 1 a.m. Tuesday and the National Weather Service is warning of minor coastal flooding and erosion within an hour of high tide.

Shore roads might splash over during high tide.

Here are projected tides and wave heights for two locations:

Point Judith
Total tide 5.6 feet. Wave height 8 to 10 feet Tuesday morning. Waves could reach 9 to 11 feet during Tuesday afternoon’s high tide at 1:27 p.m.

Newport Harbor
Total tide 6.1 feet with waves of 3 feet Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon high tide at 4.9 feet with waves of 3 feet.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is issued for minor coastal flooding of vulnerable shore roads and basements due to the height of the storm tide or wave splashover. Most roads remain passable with only isolated closures.
