Playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts and other public recreation facilities are all closed until further notice. State parks and beaches, including Fort Adams and Brenton Point State Park, will close on Friday following an executive order from Gov. Gina Raimondo. These closures are expected to stay in place until at least April 30.
At this time, city officials do not anticipate than any other city parks will close in the coming weeks. All Newport residents are reminded that while it's okay to go outside and go for a walk or bike ride, it's better to do so near their homes. When outside, always stay at least 6 feet away from others and avoid gatherings of five people or more.
