Coronavrius In Newport: City Partners With Meals On Wheels

The program is open to Aquidneck Island residents over the age of 60 who have signed up for food assistance with the Edward King House.

NEWPORT, RI — The city of Newport has partnered with Meals on Wheels to bring free meals to seniors. The program is open to Aquidneck Island residents over the age of 60.

Volunteers with the Aquidneck Island Emergency Volunteer Alliance will deliver the meals on a weekly basis throughout the month of April.

To qualify, seniors must be signed up for food assistance with the Edward King House Senior Center. Anyone who is not signed up but thinks that they qualify for the program can reach out to Carmela Geer at carmateach@gmail.com.

All volunteers will be screened for symptoms of illness before making food deliveries. Call the city's City’s Emergency Operations Center at 401-845-5501 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with any questions.
