PROVIDENCE, RI — The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday it is giving over $800,000 in grants to several Rhode Island school districts to improve safety.
The department told the Associated Press the grants are part of an effort to make schools more secure by providing more resources. The grant money will be used for new school safety training, educating faculty, and supporting existing crisis intervention teams.
The grants are authorized by the STOP School Violence Act which was designed to prevent violence and help students and teachers reduce risks. The funds are part of more than $70 million in school safety funding being distributed nationwide.
