Dorian's Impacts: Storm To Bring Heavy Rain, Wind To Rhode Island
The Category 2 hurricane could dump more than 4 inches of rain on Southern New England late this week.

The remnants of what is currently Hurricane Dorian could hit Rhode Island later this week. The powerful storm, poised to hit the Southeastern coast of the United States, is expected to track northward throughout the rest of the week, potentially clipping Rhode Island on Friday.
Dorian will probably move past Southern New England at the end of the week, from Friday night into Saturday, according to forecasters. The National Weather Service said Tuesday morning that parts of the region could see more than 4 inches of rain in 12 hours and wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour, with a particularly high risk along the coast and in places like Nantucket.
Look at this incredible high resolution radar loop of #HurricaneDorian from @NASA #GOES satellite! Notice the high pressure shearing on the northwest quadrant. The result is it’s holding back heavy weather here at the moment... but forecast says it won’t stay that way. pic.twitter.com/IHXiAtKnTV

With the storm's track still so uncertain, local emergency management agencies are encouraging Rhode Islanders to plan ahead. The Providence EMA suggested that residents familiarize themselves with their hurricane evacuation route and prepare an emergency supply kit. Helpful items include:
