Drunken Middletown Woman Flees After Crashing Into Newport Police Officer's Squad: Cops

The officer caught the drunken Middletown Woman after she crashed into his squad car, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — A drunken Middletown woman fled after crashing into a stationary Newport squad car, police said.

Erin Moitoza, 38, backed up after crashing into the squad car shortly after midnight Saturday and took off, the Newport Police Department said in a media release.

The officer in the squad car, Adam Chiang, had been on a fixed traffic post at the corner of Eustis Avenue and Bliss Road when Moitoza crashed into him, according to the release.

Chiang "activated his emergency lights and siren and stopped her around the corner from the accident scene on Bliss Road.," the release said.

Both Chiang and Moitoza were transported to Newport Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, according to the release.

Moitoza was taken from the hospital to the Newport Police Station, where she was charged with driving under the influence and duty to stop for a motor vehicle accident, the release said.
