Easton's Beach, 3 Others Closed To Swimming
Five Rhode Island swimming areas were closed for high bacteria levels.

NEWPORT, RI — Three more Rhode Island beaches are closed to swimming Thursday. The Rhode Island Department of Health announced that Easton's Beach in Newport and the Kent County YMCA's Upper and Lower Ponds were closed due to high bacteria levels.
If you're having trouble keeping up with the rotating list of closures and re-openings, no worries, we are too. Over the past few weeks, beaches across Rhode Island have been closed and reopened, with closure statuses sometimes changing several times in a day.
As of Thursday night, the following beaches were closed:

- Burlingame Picnic Area, Charlestown
- Camp Watchaug
- Easton's Beach, Middletown
- Kent County YMCA Upper and Lower Ponds
On Thursday morning, Point Judith Pond was declared safe for shellfishing. That same day, Scarborough Beach South was declared safe for swimming.
