Atlantic Cup Class 40 Grand Prix - Inshore Race Start

The Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing is the only dedicated Class 40 sailing race in the United States. The 2012 race kicks off in Charleston, South Carolina May 11th. From Charleston competitors will race double-handed to New York City. There will be approximately a 4-5 day stop-over in New York before the race restarts May 19th and competitors sprint to Newport, Rhode Island. Once in Newport, skippers will race an inshore grand prix May 26th & 27th with a crew of six.

With 15+ entries from France, Germany, England and the U.S., The Atlantic Cup is the largest Class 40 fleet ever to race in the United States and the races last stop is in Newport.

At approximately 10am on Saturday and Sunday, watch the boats leave the docks as they head out for the inshore races. Boats will return to the Shipyard around 4pm daily. The start/finish line for all races will be just off of Fort Adams, makng that the best place for viewing the races. Also, stop by the Atlantic Cup tent at the Shipyard to meet some of the sponsors, get Atlantic Cup gear and take a walk around the Shipyard.
