Festival Ballet Providence sends children enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State's Mentoring Programs to see their annual performance of The Nutcracker.
"This is a perfect fit," said Development Director of FBP, Fraizer Bell. "We continuously seek out ways for FBP to engage the community."
Festival Ballet Providence (FBP), this year, has generously donated 50 tickets to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) for children enrolled in their mentoring programs to experience this year’s performance of The Nutcracker alongside their Big Brother or Big Sister.
The mission of Festival Ballet Providence is to thrill and move our audience, dancers, choreographers, students, supporters and staff with art and discipline. Their vision: To continuously increase in passion and artistic excellence and strength achieving national and international recognition as a creative force in dance.
“This is a perfect fit,” said Development Director of FBP, Fraizer Bell. “We continuously seek out ways for FBP to engage the community and develop relationships with organizations that enrich the community. We are looking forward to continuously engaging with BBBSOS offering enrichment programs surrounding dance and the arts.”
Tickets to the show were underwritten by Seven Stars Bakery who generously donated the proceeds from their Bread of the Day fundraiser held on November 6, 2014.

“BBBSOS is always so grateful for such generous community partners,” said Executive Director of BBBSOS, Deborah Saunders. “Each month we offer the ‘Bigs’ and ‘Littles’ of our mentoring program two – four free or low-cost activities. The hard work and dedication of our volunteers, staff and community partners such as FBP are what makes the biggest impact in the lives of children in Rhode Island.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Currently there are over 100 children on the waiting list, most of whom are boys, waiting for someone to positively impact their lives. Heather Potter, Program Director had this to say “Mentoring is more than just being a child’s friend. It’s being the person who allows them to see the light in their life, giving them higher aspirations, greater educational success and higher self esteem.”
