Five City Job Openings in Newport

Newport is looking for an account clerk, city planner, custodian, grant manager and clean city program manager.

Newport is in the midst of a search for a new city manager, but that’s not the only local government job opening.

The city is also looking to hire an account clerk, city planner, clean city program coordinator, custodian and grant manager.

Salaries range from $35,000 to more than $60,000 depending on experience.

The account clerk job is open to applications until Jan. 30 and a good candidate will be ready to coordinate monthly water bills, process shut-off notices and manage customer accounts, among other duties. A high school diploma is required.

Applicants for the city planner job must possess a master’s degree in urban planning with one to three years of experience working in a related field. The application period will remain open until the job is filled. The job was posted on Dec. 6.

The custodian position is a full time job and an ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a year of experience in janitorial work, be able to work on a ladder, operate power tools and work nights, weekends and holidays. A valid driver’s license is also required.

Newport has big shoes to fill with the departure of Kristin Littlefield as the city’s clean city program coordinator, who is moving on to a position with Rhode Island Resource Recovery in Johnston.

The job of clean city program coordinator is a challenging one and the city hopes to find someone who has experience with solid waste recycling programs, can juggle numerous responsibilities and handle cross-communications between all of the city’s departments.

The position will be open until filled.

The Grant Manager position is a temporary position that will pay hourly, up to $26 per hour.

The job is with the Newport Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, which coordinates local substance abuse prevention strategies.
