Former Newport Building Inspector Dies at 60
William C. Haggerty, 60, former building inspector for the city of Newport, passed away Friday, June 05, 2015.

William C. Haggerty, 60, former building inspector for the city of Newport, passed away Friday, June 05, 2015, at Home & Hospice Care of RI.
He was the beloved son of Mary Ann (James) Haggerty and the late William C. Haggerty; father of Jessica Bowley; grandfather of Ethan Bowley; brother of Maryanne Vollmer, Patricia Golen and Michael Haggerty; uncle of Heather Gearhart, Melissa Vollmer, Sarah Haggerty, James Golen, Michael, Matthew, Brian and Lauren Haggerty.
Billy was born in Newport, RI and attended Rogers High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked in the Motor Pool as a mehanic and dispatcher. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and was recognized as an expert M16 Sharpshooter Grenade.

Billy enjoyed camping, fishing, wtching movies and spendng time with framily and friends. He was also a huge Patriots fam. He has a great sense of humor and a quick wit, always bringing laughter to those around him. He was a kind, gentle, and generous person. Billy was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 9, at 10 am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, will be appreciated.
