Gas Drops Below $3 in Part of R.I.--But Not in Newport

Gas prices are at their lowest levels in Rhode Island in more than four years.

Gas at the Geko station in Providence dropped to $2.99 a gallon this week, according to GasBuddy.

In Newport, prices were still well above $3 a gallon. Here were the lowest prices as of Tuesday:

• Shell, $3.29
• Stop & Shop, $3.29
• Shell, $3.33 (Narragansett)
• Citgo, $3.43

The average price of gas statewide was $3.28—9 cents higher than the national average, according to the Associated Press. Prices have been driven down by low demand and abundant supply.
